coraline guest cabin.

The Coraline guest cabin began as an exploration of a specific challenge: how to create a genuine sense of retreat within the constraints of a compact marine cabin.

Two directions were developed and presented to the client.

Concept I works with a neutral palette anchored by warm wood tones and soft textures. The spatial planning maximises perceived volume through careful furniture selection — pieces that are sculptural without being imposing. The ensuite introduces a marble vanity against a textured wall, a material contrast that reads as considered rather than decorative.

Concept II takes a quieter approach. Natural light is the primary design element, and the palette responds to it — soothing, coastal, unhurried. Subtle nautical references are woven through the textiles and artwork selection without becoming a theme. The result is a cabin that feels like a personal room rather than a yacht specification.

Both concepts were developed for a small expedition vessel. The brief was the same for each: a space that earns its guest’s trust within the first hour onboard.
